Workshop Description

EMERGE: Leadership Skills for Green Building Professionals & Advocates

This two-day workshop introduces the EMERGE Leadership Model (ELM) aimed at building individual, organization, and community leadership capacity in order to develop practical, integrated solutions and create a truly sustainable built environment. Check out SampleProgram. Please note that the Islandwood Residency includes an additional introductory evening to allow for a more relaxed schedule.

The EMERGE Leadership Model (ELM) embodies at its core servant leadership, which expands the reach of leadership beyond that available simply through position and power, as well as the context of community, which amplifies the positive outcomes of your leadership efforts. In addition, ELM relies on the best social change science available. Presentations based on faculty experience and the latest research, group discussions, nature walks, private reflection, team scenario planning, healthy meals, and yoga combine to create in the words of a recent participant and sustainability program director “a life-altering experience.” Limited enrollment allows for an intimate learning environment.

Workshop leader and visionary Kathleen O’Brien will be joined by experienced faculty members who will share personal stories of success using emergence leadership elements in their fields.  Throughout the workshop, students will work in small groups to address real world challenges, leveraging the instructors’ theoretical and practical guidance.

Participants will leave with a personal leadership development plan, the option of a complimentary mentoring session with EMERGE Faculty to review their plan and progress, and access to EMERGE Leadership Alumni resources and “refresher” opportunities.

GBCI has approved 13 general CE hours for participants of workshop.  ILFI has approved 13 hours towards Living Future Accreditation.  Can’t make it to the full thing?  Consider an “Introduction to Emergent Leadership.”
