Emergence is the physical phenomena in nature whereby a number of like elements combine to form a coherent system — functional, aesthetic, unique. Think snowflake. Emerge workshops combine elements — including Emerge participants themselves — to create a forward-thinking and acting space where we learn to catalyze, participate in, and enjoy a resilient, adaptive, sustainable society, using the built environment as the primary media for this change. A society where a sustainably built environment is the norm represents a dramatic change in thinking and practice.

This two-day intensive workshop conducted by EMERGE in partnership with green building stakeholders in the Los Angeles/Southern California region is for business and community leaders of all levels called to create this change. Leadership to successfully foster this change can be learned and does not necessarily require celebrity status or title. It does, however, require inspiration, dedication, emergent leadership competencies and knowledge. The workshop is to be held at the Southern California Gas Company’s LEED Certified Energy Resource Center, Downey, California.

One EMERGE workshop participant reported that this is “the only workshop of this kind (he’s) ever attended, where it has ’stuck’”. Following the workshop he was able to obtain a position in one of the  most forward-thinking municipalities in the western states, working on a sustainable planning initiative.

Workshop Faculty for this event includes Kathleen O’Brien, David Eisenberg, and other invited guests. See faculty bios at
